Toad Watch/Migration

Message from Ian Barwick, Kentfield Farm

We are at that time of year when the toads migrate and will start coming off the fields and our gardens, heading to the pond at the bottom of Tower Hill, and I have placed the toad signs in the road.
Sadly with online deliveries etc, we have more traffic in the lane than ever before.
So please can you inform your families, friends and drivers to make a concerted lookout for the toads over the next few weeks, especially between 6pm-11pm on mild damp evenings.
As you may know, I head a group of local volunteers called “toad watch” and have organised volunteers who will be out every night to help us collect any toads and move them off the road and into the pond paddock to avoid them being squashed.
The decline of 60% of our native toads in the last few decades due to habit loss and road deaths, has caught the interest of ITV Meridian who will be filming here for a news feature in the next few days, for a feature to be shown on 5th March.
So please be super vigilant in your cars over the next few weeks and thank you very much for your support.
